If you find yourself wandering the vibrant streets of Zurich, particularly near Schaffhauserstrasse, make sure to carve out time for an authentic culinary experience at Masal Dosa. This delightful gem specializes in South Indian cuisine and is revered by locals and visitors alike for its exceptional flavors and inviting atmosphere.

The heart of Masal Dosa lies in its dedication to authenticity, proudly serving dishes reminiscent of home-cooked meals from southern India. Chef Mr. Shiva, hailing from the renowned city of Tiruvaarur, specializes in crafting dishes that echo the warmth and nostalgia of family kitchens. As you step inside, you are greeted by a clean, recently renovated space that feels both casual and welcoming, perfect for a relaxed meal.

Start your gastronomical journey with a plate of their famous Masala Dosa, which is crisp and golden, filled with a savory potato mixture that will transport your taste buds straight to the streets of Tamil Nadu. Pair it with their vibrant coconut chutney and rich sambar for an explosion of flavors that dance on your palate. Don’t miss the Ghee Roast—it’s decadently rich and incredibly satisfying. For meat lovers, the tender mutton curry receives rave reviews, praised for its complexity and depth of flavor. The Idli and Vada are also notable highlights, praised for their fluffy texture and perfect seasoning.

One diner, Mahesh S, captured the essence of this place beautifully when he said, “It was just like my mom made.” This sentiment resonates through every bite, echoing the experiences of many others who have discovered this culinary sanctuary. Another guest, Sathya Narayanan, went so far as to declare it “the best South Indian food” he encountered on an extensive European trip. It’s not just the food that captivates; the staff fosters a friendly and inviting atmosphere, making you feel right at home—even if you’re miles away.

Whether you’re in Zurich on business, visiting family, or simply exploring the city, dining at Masal Dosa is more than just a meal; it’s an experience. Having received consistent rave feedback for their attention to detail and the quality of their dishes, it’s advisable to make a reservation, especially during peak hours, to ensure you don’t miss out on this extraordinary South Indian culinary delight. Remember, the journey of flavors awaits you just a three-minute walk from Oerlikon station. Treat yourself to a slice of South India without leaving Zurich, and you may find that this restaurant becomes your new favorite spot!

Exceptional food and service. Very authentic south indian dishes made by Mr. Shiva from Tiruvaarur. It was just like my mom made and I called him and appreciated for the tasty mutton curry, ghee roast and jaggery kesari. Idli and Vada was also very fluffy and tasty. Try this place if you stay between Zurich central and airport. This place is just 3 minutes walk from the Oerlikon station (Tram 10 stops here).

Loved the Masala Dosa & Filter coffee!!! Its our all time favourite place for authentic South Indian food and every time it gets even better , really appreciate their effort in including all feedbacks to improve furthermore, we are a constant there and have almost tried all their dishes ,its as close to homecooked meal!! Friendly staffs & recently renovated place, kindly book prior as it can get crowded on weekends.

The best South Indian food I have ever had during my 20 day Euro trip covering Paris, Normandy, Salzburg, Hallstatt, Munich, Black Forest, Lucerne and Milan. The place is run by Mrs Uma and her her husband. It’s squeaky clean with simple menu but amazing taste. We had pidi dosa, parotta with veg curry, chicken biryani and ghee roast dosa (twice). These were finger licking delicious. The sambar and chutney varieties were simply superb. To top it off, the filter coffee and mango lassi were even better. The experience of gaming home cooked food so far from home was simply amazing. The staff especially Mr Sukhmeet Singh was hospitality personified, emboldening the saying ‘Athithi Devo Bhava’ with his infectious smile and pleasant attitude. This is a must visit place for all Indians while visiting Zurich and would recommend to all others also to try original authentic South Indian delicacies. I wish the hard working couple the very best and even more successes in future.

One of the best South Indian food experiences I’ve had in Europe — OMG! The parotta and Salna tasted exactly like what we get back home in Tamil Nadu, and the Dosa was perfectly authentic. The egg kalaki was just as good too! I’ve been living in Stockholm for the past eight years, and I’ve never had such real South Indian flavors there, especially parotta. It’s been three months since I visited this place in Zurich, just before my flight from Switzerland, and I still remember the softness and perfect layers of that parotta. And the filter coffee... I had it twice , truly “vera level”, as we say in Tamil!! I also met the chef, who happens to be from near my hometown. Later, I found out on Google that the restaurant is run by a woman :) huge kudos! Amazing job, ma!!!

I was genuinely blown away by the quality and authenticity of the dishes here. The Masala Dosa was hands down one of the best I’ve ever had in Europe-crispy, flavorful, and arguably even better than what you get in India! The Tamil-style chicken curry was rich, aromatic, and perfectly spiced, pairing beautifully with the flaky, soft porotta. Every bite reminded me of home. It’s rare to find South Indian food done this well outside of India, and this place absolutely nailed it. Highly recommended for anyone craving real South Indian flavors in Europe!

Food was excellent! Truly enjoyed the dosa. Being Sat night the place was definitely crowded. Looks like it was a family operation with just two young siblings managing the order taking, service and all tables. This of course made the service slow and multiple people had to keep reminding the staff for things or orders placed. Overall, I still felt it was a great place!

Finally I found real taste of Indian dosa in Europe, which took me to the India. Fast service. Food and price point balanced. I only missed silent ambient thematic music, just for the atmosphere. Minus: Tap water for 3€ is just too much!
